Invisible braces have been evolving and undergoing refinements in the dental community for years, and today, they’re more effective than ever before. One of the most popular methods for straightening misaligned teeth, invisible braces like ClearCorrect offer patients a subtle and comfortable solution that doesn’t involve unsightly braces or major lifestyle changes.
ClearCorrect is an invisible braces solution we can offer our Austin family dentistry patients to fix alignment issues in their teeth. In medical terminology, dentists refer to crooked teeth as “malocclusion,” and there are lots of different varieties out there. ClearCorrect is an excellent solution for resolving overbites, underbites, crossbites, and many other forms of malocclusion, which not only affect the aesthetics of your smile, but can also impact overall oral health in the future.
Using the ClearCorrect system, patients receive a series of specially-designed clear plastic aligners to be worn throughout the day. These aligners are changed out every several weeks to gradually straighten and align teeth. Typically, a complete ClearCorrect treatment takes just under a year, but each treatment plan is tailored to the needs of the individual, and duration may vary from person to person.
Thanks to the unique design of ClearCorrect invisible braces, this method has lots of advantages over traditional braces. One of the favorite differences among our patients is how little it impacts their ability to eat. Traditional braces come with a list of foods that can damage the delicate wires and brackets, including whole apples, sticky foods, and more. But with ClearCorrect, the aligners are simply removed for meals, meaning patients can continue to enjoy all their favorite foods throughout treatment.
With traditional braces, cleaning and oral hygiene routines must also change to accommodate and protect the braces themselves. But, just as with eating, patients remove ClearCorrect for brushing and flossing, and the aligners require only a few seconds of brushing with a toothbrush to remain clean themselves.
Finally, traditional braces rely on constant check-ups, adjustments, and tightening sessions to work. Since patients simply switch out aligners themselves for the next in the series, check-ups at the dentist are much less frequent. Patients using ClearCorrect may only see the dentist every six to eight weeks, although these appointments are still critical, as they will help the dentist monitor progress and make any mid-course adjustments to the plan, if needed.
As mentioned above, ClearCorrect usually takes about a year to complete a full treatment course, but some patients require as little as a few months, while others may take several years. For the best results, ClearCorrect aligners should be worn a minimum of 22 hours each day. In addition, as with any orthodontic treatment, once treatment is complete, the best results are maintained over time with a retainer. The dentist will prescribe a specially-fitted retainer for nighttime wear to help you maintain your ClearCorrect results, and prevent teeth from sliding back into their original position.
The financial investment with ClearCorrect is typically similar to traditional braces, although every case is different. We’ll thoroughly review all costs – as well as financing and payment options – during an initial consultation to provide you with all the information you may need to decide if ClearCorrect is right for you.
